“The highest realms of thought are impossible to reach without first attaining an understanding of compassion” (Socrates) captures the essence of Ms. Geers’ philosophy of education. She believes through the exploration of literature, students develop the analytical skills necessary for inter-disciplinary connections, and they are enabled to become concerned global citizens with a higher level of empathy. With this pedagogical approach, students discover the importance of establishing a strong, independent voice within their writing which is beneficial for their academic and future careers.
Ms. Geers graduated from Vanguard University where she earned a B.A. in English with a Minor in History/Political Science, as well as an M.A. in Biblical Studies/Archaeology. She received her teaching credential through San Jose State University.
An educator since 2001, Ms. Geers currently is a member of the faculty at Mission San Jose High School where she teaches 10 Honors and 11 Honors English. She is G.A.T.E. certified and she has received training in Advanced Placement Language and Literature. Before joining the staff at Mission San Jose High School, she taught Advanced Placement Literature, American Literature, and World History at Fremont Christian School.
Ms. Geers has received the National Society of High School Scholars Nobel Educator of Distinction, the University of California Award of Excellence, the San Jose State University College of Education Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Contributions in the area of Multicultural Education, Chapman University’s Commendation for the Commitment to Student Learning, and recognition from The Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.
A trained archaeologist, Ms. Geers has worked in several countries located in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. She has a high level of energy, and a passion for knowledge and understanding, which she brings to her students. In her spare time, she enjoys playing tennis, skiing, traveling around the world, exploring geological formations, and spending time with her family.
