Mr. Sheldon Dance
Mr. Dance holds a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in comparative literature from UC Berkeley and Indiana University, respectively.
He knew he was meant to be teacher when he was in high school and first began teaching guitar. Having the opportunity to watch a student grasp a new concept empowered Mr. Dance to see the joy and value in teaching. Since then, he has worked with students of all ages, specifically at the high school level and more recently, at the collegiate level. Mr. Dance has experience teaching writing courses at Indiana University, Bloomington and Holy Names University in Oakland, CA. Currently, Mr. Dance is part of the English faculty team at Dublin High School.
The approach in Mr. Dance’s teaching methodology is believing in the importance of writing: to write well is to think well. As students develop the ability to write clearly, they are intrinsically also learning to think critically, while making assertions and creating powerful ideas. Mr. Dance doesn’t want his students only to master the mechanics of writing, but to also understand and possess the cognitive and imaginative power that reading and writing facilitates.
When he is not teaching, writing, or reading, you can find him spending time with his wife, playing his guitar, rooting for the Oakland A’s, or practicing his calligraphy. Mr. Dance is excited to bring his enthusiasm for teaching to the students at Mill Creek Academy.
