Ms. Cynthia Chiu
Ms. Chiu believes “possessing a second language skill empowers a student to be a stronger professional in this competitive and global market.” With Mandarin becoming an influential language in our country, Ms. Chiu encourages all students to invest time in learning a second language. Having a bilingual background will only be an asset for the next generation. As native speaker from Taiwan, Ms. Chiu has been teaching Chinese as a second language field since 2006. Creating and developing Mandarin programs at a number of prestigious private schools in the Bay Area, Ms. Chiu has experience teaching Mandarin at all grade levels. Most recently, Ms. Chiu joined the faculty at Mission San Jose High School. Since 2013, Ms. Chiu has been anchoring the Chinese 3 and Chinese AP program. Since 2011, Ms. Chiu also serves as an AP Chinese Exam reader for the College Board.
After migrated from Taiwan to U.S., Ms. Chiu attended University of West Florida, where she graduated with her Bachelors of Arts in Communication Arts. Soon after, she continued her education and attended New York University where she received her Masters degree in Interactive Telecommunication. Initially pursuing a career in Journalism for a few years, Ms. Chiu was prompted to move to the West Coast where she pursued her teaching credential. Obtaining a BCLAD degree, she has been thrilled to share her knowledge and love for Mandarin with young students. On the weekends, she can be found teaching at a local Chinese School program, continuing to help students develop their language skills.
Ms. Chiu has always had a great love for learning, exploring new ideas, and teaching kids, especially in the area of implementing technology to motivate students in engaging and learning a second language. In her free time, Ms. Chiu likes to attend different professional development workshops to enrich her teaching strategies. She had attended several Stanford University and UC Berkeley educational workshops while also earning secondary certificates in teaching methodologies.
When Ms. Chiu is not in the classroom, she loves to swims or Zumba dance. She also enjoys going to movies with her family and finding time to travel during the summer. She is thrilled to bring her talents to the young students at Mill Creek Academy.
