Ms. Hilary Marine
Ms. Marine, a Pleasanton native who grew up in our local school system often thinks back to the fond memories she had as a student and now as a colleague among some of her former teachers. Upon graduating high school, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Environmental Studies from California State University, Chico. She has earned her Multiple and Single Subject credentials with a focus on reading and literacy strategies. It is with her education where she started her career focused on elementary science programs. There, she focused on making sure students experienced a hands-on learning curriculum and encountered those “ah-ha” moments that would leave them thirsty for more to learn. After focusing on childhood literacy and teaching English to speakers of other languages, it was clear that a role in teaching English would fulfill her long term career goals and passions. The philosophies of having a Growth Mindset and connecting learning in the classroom to real world experiences outside of the classroom have driven and guided her pedagogy.
Ms. Marine guides students in finding and creating meaning, value, and purpose in what they read and write by teaching them high analytical skills that will help them well beyond their middle school years. She has taken on leadership roles at her school site as the English Department Chair and ASB advisor and this year was able to participate as a mentor teacher for the Induction Program with Fremont Unified School District. Currently teaching English at Hopkins Junior High School where she loves working with middle school students, her nearly decade of teaching experience has kept her eager to continue helping students find joy through the writing process.
She hopes to further instill a love of learning to her students at Mill Creek Academy by teaching them to be confident, lifelong learners. She will work to further develop language, reading, and writing skills in her students while connecting material to the real world in a meaningful way. She is thrilled to be a part in helping students realize their potential in English and the Language Arts.
When she is not in school, Ms. Marine loves spending time with her family. Her husband is an English teacher as well and the two have a daughter in preschool. She loves cooking, reading, traveling, and keeping up with her active toddler. They love spending time with their community of friends. She is looking forward to being a part of the Mill Creek family.
