Ms. Janet Chow
Ms. Chow believes that the key to being an educator is to embrace one’s fate as a lifelong learner. Her curiosity and eagerness to learn has directed most of her major life decisions.
A graduate from Case Western Reserve University, Ms. Chow received a B.A. in English, in addition to a minor in Biology. Afterward, she obtained her Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics at Columbia University in New York City.
While pursuing her graduate degree, she worked as a Pedagogy & Curriculum Associate at an innovative digital language training company that was just a budding start-up at the time. While conducting research to create curriculum content for the platform, Ms. Chow realized the lack of real-world teaching experience among the executives and associates, including herself. To bring a teacher’s perspective to the company and to enrich her understanding of learner behavior, Ms. Chow embarked on a student teaching journey at various schools in Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx. What began as an interim research project quickly blossomed into a permanent calling. Eventually, her love for the classroom and her passion for literature led her to pursue a full-time career as a high school English teacher.
Currently, Ms. Chow teaches 9th-11th grade English at her alma mater, Cherry Hill High School East. In addition, she is the Yearbook Advisor for the school and most days you can find her in Room B139 with students who crashed her lunch period to sit and chat. On weekends, Ms. Chow is busy working at Hazel Grey Style, her own event design and floral studio, fondly named after her two children, whom she adores more than all the stars in the sky.
Ms. Chow is a positive contribution to the College Essay Team. Her excitement and support aids students in writing their unique stories with the hope that their creative narratives will impact the college admissions review process.
