Ms. Julia Yoon
Having always served in the church through the Children’s Ministry program, Ms. Yoon realized at an early age that she loved working with young minds. There was a sense of curiosity, eagerness, and interest that came with the mind of a young student. It was in those moments that as she pursued her college degree at the University of California, Berkeley, she found herself changing her major a few times, and ultimately earning her Bachelors of Arts in History. Realizing that her love for history stemmed from her passion for reading, history became her literature text.
Teaching for more than ten years at a private elite high school in Alameda, Ms. Yoon has anchored the middle school CORE subjects, an English and History combination course. The opportunity to get students excited about why literature matters has challenged her to design curriculum that is poignant, relatable, and meaningful. Currently, in addition to teaching, she serves as a middle school coordinate where she is tasked to organize, plan, and build up the student body team.
As teaching has been such a major part of Ms. Yoon’s life, she too is a lifelong learner. She is motivated and focused on helping young students change their lives for the better, hoping to instill a sense of validation that their best potential is yet to come.
She looks forward to joining the Mill Creek Academy team where she can help students see the value of putting in just one hour a week to thrive, engage, and strengthen their intellectual skills.
During my free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, watching movies, and cheering for the Golden State Warriors.
