Ms. Kate Townsend
Ms. Townsend grew up in Pleasanton, where she first developed her love for education. She began volunteering in elementary classrooms, tutoring at the public library, and job shadowed an elementary principal for a Youth in Government Day. Those experiences as a young child left a lasting impression. Continuing her education, Ms. Townsend earned a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies and her Multiple Subject teaching credential from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Deciding where to begin her teaching career, there was no doubt that she would return to her alma mater, Donlon Elementary. Her experience has been with teaching at the Kindergarten level, fifth and sixth grade. Most recently, she has been a 5th grade teacher, helping her students explore and strengthen their skills in Math, Science, and English. Her passion for teaching writing continues to be one of her main focuses on curriculum.
Outside the classroom walls, Ms. Townsend holds a Masters in Educational Leadership and an Administrative Credential, which has allowed her to take on leadership roles at her school site. Ms. Townsend coordinates her elementary school’s after school tutoring program for 3rd-5th graders, works as a data analyst in a committee that encourages positive behavior choices in students, and is on her school’s RTI implementation team. Wearing multiple hats at her school, she savors her time when working with children.
In her free time, Ms. Townsend enjoys running, hiking, and spending time with her husband and her 3 year old son, Mason. She is excited for the opportunity to join the outstanding team at Mill Creek Academy!
