Ms. Terri Burke
When Ms. Burke was in high school, she tutored her fellow students in her favorite subject, math. It was then when she discovered her love of helping others and the lure of the “lightbulb moment”- when a struggling student finally understands and their face lights up. She wanted to make a difference. For almost 25 years, she has been known to bring math to life through rigor, high academic expectations, and math applications to daily life.
Ms. Burke graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics and teaching credential from Sacramento State University. She met her husband while attending college and they settled in Elk Grove, CA. A lifelong learner, she later pursued a Master’s degree in Educational Technology.
Having taught in the Elk Grove School District for over 20 years, Ms. Burke has instructed 7th grade math through Calculus BC. For the past 15 years she has focused on teaching upper level math including PreCalculus, Honors PreCalculus, Calculus AB and Calculus BC. She has taught Calculus AB for over 10 years and loves encouraging students to reach their full potential. She enjoys supporting students of all levels, helping them find success. Ms. Burke is also a mathletes advisor and enjoys sharing her passion for math in the competitive math leagues, working with students who want to build confidence and work on problem-solving skills.
In her spare time, Ms. Burke enjoys relaxing with her husband and two children who are in college. She likes to travel, read, and try new recipes. She also enjoys running marathons and half-marathons. She has run 5 marathons including one in Dublin, Ireland. She is not fast, but always finishes! She is very excited to join the Mill Creek Academy team to share her love of math and helping students prepare for their future.
