College Admissions
“Ms. Wong and the team were such a big help in my daughter’s college application process. They worked with us in providing essay feedback, research resources, and alumni connections. She was thorough and detail oriented, helping us every step of the way. Thank you Ms. Wong!” — J.H.
“As a senior navigating through the college application process, Ms. Wong and Ms. Lin were extremely helpful to creating my essays. Beginning from the brainstorming stage, Ms. Wong organized a unique common application essay, that best suited my personality and personal strengths. Through multiple revisions and in-depth commentary, they helped me to shape my final draft that I finished over the course of a week. Following my positive experience, I would recommend the service to any student looking for help in this stressful experience.” — B.C.
“The 2020-21 college application process was really unusual and came with a number of added challenges (cancelled SATs, online personal interviews, new test optional guidelines for admissions etc.) for high school seniors. I enrolled our son who is currently a senior at James Logan in Mill Creek Academy’s College Counseling program in August 2020.
Ms. Wong and her team at Mill Creek, helped my son prepare, organize his college applications, essays by providing timely/valuable guidance during the entire application process and the follow up (interviews and supplemental material responses post application submission). The entire process was very well organized and went through without a glitch. Her team of professionals were very thorough and methodical. Ms. Wong broke the elaborate process into three easy but crucial steps.
Based on his academic, extracurricular records and his interests in computer engineering, Ms. Wong worked with my son and helped create a curated list of colleges with incredible amount of detail (application deadlines, fees, notification dates, suggested application submission dates etc.). This list was classified by reach, target and likely programs/colleges. Next came the essay writing and activity list creation. The essays were revised multiple times until it met her team’s quality standards. Multiple counselors worked with my son in polishing the drafts in an iterative manner. Finally, the applications were crosschecked before submission. Through out the whole process, Ms. Wong followed up with regular zoom meetings and emails to keep my son on track.
In late November 2020 through February 2021 my son started receiving college acceptance letters from a number of colleges, via the early action process, which really helped in reducing the stress levels going into 2021. We truly believe that the extensive preparation and attention to detail by the Mill Creek team paid off.
I would highly recommend Mill Creek Academy and Ms. Wong to anyone looking for a high-quality College Counseling Service.” — R.N.
“Ms. Wong’s guidance, detailed plan and persistence helped my son stay focused and on schedule with his college essays despite a late start. Her prompt feedback helped us do multiple iterations and finalize essays in a short time. It was a good decision going with Mill Creek Academy.” — S.J.
“This summer I attended the Summer College Essay Workshops and College Admissions Programs and without a doubt Ms. Wong definitely helped elevate my essays by finding meaning and originality in my own experiences. The summer course took so much stress off the college admissions process and gave me a feeling of security during it since Ms. Wong held my hand all along the way.” — A.L.
“I found the college application process to be so much more manageable with guidance from Ms. Wong and her editors. After putting effort to finish essays in the summer, it was easier to focus on school work during first semester of senior year. The essays went through multiple revisions and I was able to submit great quality essays. Ms. Wong is very organized and patient, she was very helpful in the stressful college application process.” — R.R.
“I took the UC Essay 1 on 1 Workshop for the summer of 2020. At first, I was pretty overwhelmed at how much revisions I had to do in such a short time. However, because of this, it taught me the importance of time management. The outcome is worth the hustle and you’ll really appreciate what Ms. Wong does. She is kind, passionate, approachable, and truly cares about bringing out the best of you! Ms. Wong is one of the greatest mentors I’ve worked with and I definitely recommend Mill Creek for college essay help and prep classes.
I also took AP Biology and AP English Language prep classes here. The teachers are extremely helpful and are up to date with exam contents. Ms. Wong has a great network of teachers that provide useful teaching and demonstration activities. Mill Creek Academy is a 5/5!!” —A.L.
“Ms. Wong helped my daughter with her college selection and counseling. I am glad we decided to enlist Ms. Wong help in this important step as we had many questions and very few answers. Ms. Wong is very knowledgeable about which colleges based on your educational statistics are good targets, reaches and backups and she guided us in coming up with a balanced college list. She helped prepare for the application process and was readily available to answer any questions or concerns along the way. She was in constant touch with her students to ensure all submissions were timely. She keeps the parents in the loop on all reminders which was very useful. Thank you Ms. Wong!” — A.B.
“I found the college application assistance program to be very helpful, as it helped me finish writing my college essays during the summer. That proved useful when first semester of senior year came, since I was able to focus on schoolwork and maintain my GPA rather than draft the essays.
Now, about Ms. Wong. The first thing I noticed about her was how organized she is. She laid out a clear plan for me to follow from the spring of my junior year until around the fall of my senior year. That allowed me to finish my standardized testing and get into a summer program just in time before starting the admissions process. Ms. Wong is an effective communicator too. Whenever we had meetings, she would send an email reviewing what we discussed to me and my parents, so we would all be on the same page. And the documents she sent with instructions in the college application process (e.g. writing UC essays) were more than sufficiently detailed for me to understand what to do. Most importantly, Ms. Wong can relate to you as a person. She has a very friendly personality so you don’t feel super tense or awkward around her. However, she will be stern when necessary, such as reminding you when you fall behind on a deadline. That was helpful for getting me back on track when I hadn’t sent an essay draft in around three days, for example.
During the college essay writing process, Ms. Wong and Ms. Shah helped me revise my drafts. They offered perspectives that I had never even considered when writing, which helped me make the necessary revisions. Their comments were specific to help me understand exactly what to fix, so I was able to make my writing that much better. In fact, I was able to be accepted into a large majority of all the colleges I applied to with those essays. So I have to thank them, because I don’t think I could have done it without their help.
With that being said, I recommend Mill Creek Academy without any reservations. If you need help with anything academic related, especially applying for college, Mill Creek Academy is the place to go.” — P.P.
“This was an extremely helpful place to go for college essays. Ms. Wong helps you brainstorm and think about almost everything that you have done over your 4 years of high school. She has a lot of experience with knowing what colleges want to hear from students when they apply. She is extremely fast with giving feedback and pushes you to get all of your essays finished. I highly recommend this place to anyone who needs help with writing for college essays.” — S.R.
“Ms. Wong’s college counseling program is an absolute must for current sophomores, or rising juniors and seniors. It’s highly recommended that you get started with her highly detailed program as early as possible (preferably in your sophomore year) to ensure yourself the best possible chance at developing a strong application. She is also very quick in replying to any questions you may have, whether it be developing your EC/activity list or deciding what major you want to apply as, and she always gives constructive feedback in a very timely manner for the many essays you will write. I cannot agree enough with her philosophy of doing submitting things early to be on time, as doing so will assist in solidifying your interest in a particular school.” — K.N.
“To any senior, junior, or even sophomore classmates I highly recommend Ms. Wong’s college counseling. I wouldn’t have been able to stay on track without her guidance. Since I went to her fairly early (which I would advise all prospective students) she helped me build my application from the start. She gave me advice on summer programs, courses, and gave me emotional support when things got tough. Most importantly however, she changed the way I approached college admissions. I learned to look beyond just rankings and actually get to know the colleges I would spend the next four years of my life in. As I wrote essays, she and the Mill Creek writing team encouraged me to dig deep and reflect on myself. Not only did this make me more self-assured, it made my essays a hundred times better than the generic platitudes and surface-level information.
She coached me through finishing off college applications and essays before school began. I was able to apply early and have more time to refine and enjoy senior year when many of my friends were stressed over meeting deadlines and finishing schoolwork.
Overall, Ms. Wong simplified and advised me through a process that is otherwise grueling and uncertain, and I emerged both a stronger candidate for college admissions and a more confident person.” — R.R.
“Mill Creek has been a huge help during my college admissions process! With the assistance of the academy I was able to efficiently plan out the schools I would apply for and write out well-developed essays with quick feedback every day. All of my essays were finished before school started so I did not have to juggle the essays along with my academics during my senior year!” — A.K.
“I spent the last few months of my junior year frantically searching for a college counselor, but all the ones I met before meeting Ms. Wong judged me like I was not worthy enough to go to college. Ms. Wong was the opposite; she was supportive, encouraging, and nonjudgemental. During the summer, I took her college essays boot camp. Not only was I able to complete all of my base essays during camp and finish all of my other supplements before the school year started, but Ms. Wong also helped me improve my writing. I have gotten into 5 colleges already, all thanks to Ms. Wong taking her precious time to revise my essays and research about schools I was interested in. I highly recommend anyone to go to Mill Creek Academy for college counseling or even writing classes!” — C.C.
