Spanish and Chinese Language Preparation
We offer different levels of foreign language preparation. Each course is geared towards giving students the practice and exposure to different foreign languages. Taught by experienced faculty members, students will begin to develop: tense rules, building stronger vocabulary, grammar review, work on crafting clearer speaking and written work. Each course will have a specific curriculum tailored to the respective level of the course.
Spanish / Chinese Level 1 is a course typically designed for students who are learning the language for the 1st year at their school site. Most schools will offer Level 1 in 7th or 8th grade.
Spanish / Chinese Level 2 is a course typically designed for students who are learning the language for the 2nd year at their school site. Most schools will offer Level 2 in 8th – 10th grade.
Spanish / Chinese Level 3 is a course typically designed for students who are learning the language for the 3rd year at their school site. Most schools will offer Level 3 in 9th – 11th grade.
Spanish / Chinese Level 4 is a course typically designed for students who are learning the language for the 4th year at their school site. Most schools will offer Level 4 in 10th – 12th grade.
AP Spanish / AP Chinese is a course typically designed for students who have mastered the language and are ready to take the highest level of a foreign language at their school sites. Most schools will offer the AP level in 10th – 12th grade.
It is suggested to take the course level that best matches with the level your child will be enrolling in at their school site.
Beginning French Exploration Grades 6-8
Beginning French Exploration is a course designed to expose students to the French speaking world. The course is an introductory class for students who may be interested in taking French I at their school sites. Each class will include components of French grammar and vocabulary so that students will have an opportunity to begin developing basic French sentences. The course will be focused on immersion, with the intention that students will only speak and listen to French while in the class. French arts, culture, and history will also be embedded into the course so that students will have a holistic view of the language. Student participation and dialogue will be an important aspect of the course. Homework will be assigned after each class to help reinforce the concepts taught by the instructor. This is the perfect course for Junior High students who are interested in the French language.
Beginning Japanese Exploration Grades 6-8
Beginning Japanese Exploration is designed to expose students to the Japanese language and culture. The course is intended to serve as an introduction for students who may wish to study Japanese in the future. The course aims to develop basic listening and speaking skills, but will also introduce the three Japanese writing systems: Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji (Chinese characters). Student participation and dialogue will be important aspects of the course. Students will practice their conversation skills and be exposed to Japanese culture through a wide range of activities. Homework will be assigned after each class to reinforce the concepts taught by the instructor. This is the perfect course for students who are interested in the Japanese language and culture.
Beginning Punjabi Exploration Grades 6-8
The course will focus on developing listening and speaking skills through the use of Punjabi, a widely popular language in India. By exposing students to this language that will continue to strengthen those who want to enter the business field in the future, cultural connections and conversational skills will be taught through this language. Activities and participation will be part of the curriculum so that students have an opportunity to really engage in the language.
