Science
Our Science program bolsters scientific skills that are now becoming more challenging for students who are adapting to the new Common Core standards. We believe students of all ages need more precise science enrichment.
Science School Year Program
- During the school year, our Science program teaches the course material on a weekly basis, covering all the important concepts pertaining to the subject material.
- With lectures and class collaboration, the discussions strengthen the science skill set for students who want to get ahead in their class.
- Our 14-week program per session enhances your child’s learning skills.
- The course implements Common Core elements in addition to ensuring they understand the foundations to their subject material.
- There are weekly homework assignments for each course to help reinforce the concepts taught in class.
- During the summer session, the science courses preview what the students will learn that following school year.
- Providing students a peek into what they will be learning gives them the confidence to tackle a new school year with a level of comfort in the course content.
Science Summer Program
- Our Science program gives students a preview of the content they will learn the following school term.
- The instructors strive to expose students to concepts that are most difficult during 1st semester’s curriculum so that there is a strong foundation and understanding that is set for the students as they endure a new year of science learning.
Science Enrichment Grades 6-12
Our Science program bolsters scientific skills that are now becoming more challenging for students who are adapting to the new Common Core standards. We believe students of all ages need more precise science enrichment.
- The instructor teaches the course material on a weekly basis, covering all the important concepts pertaining to the subject material.
- With lectures and class collaboration, the discussions strengthen the science skill set for students who want to get ahead in their class.
- Our 14-week program per session enhances your child’s learning skills.
- The course implements Common Core elements in addition to ensuring they understand the foundations to their subject material.
- There are weekly homework assignments for each course to reinforce the concepts taught in class. Science courses taught during the summer preview the material students learn the following school year.
8th Grade Physical Science Honors
- Students enrolled in the Physical Science Honors as an 8th grader are assisted with the challenging and rigorous subject matter.
- The weekly material is taught to enable students to get ahead in their class.
- Students’ questions are answered and future chapter material is introduced.
- This course helps motivated students keep up with the accelerated eighth-grade science curriculum.
NGSS – 9th Grade (New Generation Science Standards)
NGSS is the new science curriculum adopted by the local school system. NGSS standards focus on three concepts: disciplinary core ideas (content), scientific and engineering practices, and cross-cutting concepts. Currently, most state and district standards express these dimensions as separate entities, leading to their separation in both instruction and assessment.
- The integration of rigorous content and application reflects how science and engineering is practiced in the real world.
- Students investigate core elements including concepts related to: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science.

Biology Honors
- Students enrolled in 9th grade Honors Biology are assisted with the subject matter.
- The weekly material is lectured, students’ questions are answered, and a little bit of homework is assigned to help review the concepts discussed in class.
- Our goal is to stay one step ahead of the content matter at the student’s school site.
- This course helps motivated students keep up with the challenging curriculum of Accelerated Bio.
- During the summer, the course focuses on: Intro to Scientific Method, Biochemistry, Macromolecules, Organelles, Transport, Cellular Respiration, Photosynthesis and end with Mitosis.
AP Biology and AP Chemistry
- The instructors meet weekly to help students understand and clarify the material they learn at school.
- Teachers at the school sites may not cover all material required to master the AP course, therefore, our instructors at the Academy break down the material and teach them the important concepts that are necessary in order to be successful at their school sites.
- Students’ questions are answered, and they learn material they may not have understood at school.
- This class helps students keep up with the college-level depth and pace synonymous with AP courses.
Chemistry Regular and Honors
- The instructor helps students understand the concepts in their textbooks, as the class parallels what the students are learning at their school site, however, the goal of our course is to be one step ahead.
- Students are taught material through lectures and given a bit of homework for extra review.
- Supplemental worksheets help build a stronger foundation for the Chemistry content taught at school.
- Topics covered include: Atomic structure, Periodic law, Chemical bonding, Chemical reactions, and Stoichiometry.
AP Physics
The class assists students who are enrolled and interested in AP Physics.
- This course processes and clarifies concepts typically difficult to master in a class shared with 35 other students.
- Our small group setting allows students an opportunity to ask questions, discuss, and collaborate with fellow students who are also learning and challenged by the Physics curriculum.
- The instructor enhances student learning through lecturing and discussions.
- The class emphasizes understanding physics concepts and how to apply mathematical equations in solving problems.
- Student questions about class lectures, assignments, labs, preparing for tests, and projects are answered and discussed.
SAT II Biology Preparation
- The SAT II Biology course prepares students in the areas of cellular and molecular biology, ecology, genetics, organismal biology, and evolution.
- Students take a diagnostic test upon entering the class, review all components of the test, study major topics in biology, and take 5 practice tests.
